PALifier

Last updated 9th July 2002.

PALifier is a simple application that will check the display mode every few seconds to see if the current display setting is NTSC or PAL. If the current setting is NTSC, it will change the screen to a PAL mode with identical resolution and colour depth.

This is extremely useful for iBook users who connect to a PAL tv and want to use a fullscreen application. Most applications when switching to fullscreen mode will select NTSC by default (perhaps because it has a higher refresh rate?) and you will be left with a black-and-white image on the tv. PALifier will fix this by subsequently changing back to PAL mode.

This version works with the 2001 model white iBooks.

Download PALifier (90k). Last updated 9th July 2002. Updated for Mac OS 10.1.5

If you own a 2002 model iBook (with the updated video card), and want to test the latest beta version, you can download it here. Let me know if it works or not.

AT PRESENT, THERE IS NO SUPPORT FOR Mac OS 10.2 or 10.3. This is due to changes in the operating system that make Palifier's job very difficult. I will try to release an update, but I'm not promising anything.
